Living The Way God Intended...A Modern Lifestyle Based On The Habits And Environment Of Our Ancestor

The principles of functional medicine and ancestral living go hand in hand in discovering and treating root causes of chronic disease in our modern world. The conveniences of the modern world are indeed advantageous and have made our lives easier; however, they have also taken our attention away from how God intended for us to live. 


God endowed humans with the brains and intelligence to create modern medicine to treat emergency and life-threatening acute issues, which is a blessing . However, through ancestral living and functional medicine, we can use those same brains to prevent and reverse chronic illness using the tools God has already given to us. 


Based on each individual, supplemental care may be needed for certain medical conditions but, in focusing on living according to how we were created, we can make a huge dent in the current human disease process. In doing so, we can not only identify and fix the root causes of our modern diseases, but also simplify our lives and find joy in the miraculous world God has given us. 


By way of example, below are some suggestions and actionable items, not an exhaustive list, to consider that I have worked on with clients:

  • Pray for the willingness to surrender your life to God in faith
  • Discover and prioritize life based on core values and beliefs
  • Discover and practice things that bring you joy daily
  • Focus daily on gratitude and thanks
  • Make time to be kind to yourself and relax

  • Eat seasonal, whole foods created by God instead of man-made processed foods
  • Use food as medicine with healthy eating
  • Get to know and follow your body's hunger and satiety signals
  • Eat when it is light outside 
  • Drink half your body weight in ounces of water daily

  • Get between 7-9 hours of sleep when it is dark outside
  • Maintain a regular sleep schedule even on weekends
  • Create a practice of clearing your mind before bed
  • Avoid screens/blue light at least one hour before bed
  • Keep the bedroom cold and dark

  • Discover and regularly do activities that bring you joy
  • Spend more time moving than sitting during the day
  • Challenge yourself but do not over exercise
  • Find a friend or group activity for accountability
  • Don't use exercise to compensate for eating poorly

  • Join a group in your community based on your interests 
  • Find ways to regularly volunteer and be of service 
  • Make a point to call a friend or someone you know is struggling
  • Actively seek ways to get out into the community and meet people
  • Become active in a church to strengthen your faith

  • Make a point to learn new skills regularly
  • Don't give up on trying new things just because they are hard
  • Create goals and develop new habits
  • Eat whole, nutritious foods 
  • Get quality sleep 
  • Detoxify your whole life
  • Practice effective stress management techniques
